Speaking of poetry picture books that appeal to my childhood, I could have written “Sea Star Wishes: Poems from the Coast” myself! BUT I didn’t. It’s written by Eric Ode and Illustrated by Erik Brooks. It’s a favorite because it explores the Ocean of course! I remember being a child and frolicking in tide pools, discovering all the wonders each little world held. It inspired a lifelong love of the ocean that has yet to cease (obviously).
Today’s poem is about one of my favorite sea creatures the Sea Urchin. I used to be mystified of their crazy spikes and even when visiting the local college touchy pool, I refused to go near them. I love this poem and the picture’s perspective (once again!).
