Speaking of nature poetry still, I cannot help but bring up Jane Yolen, the queen of poetry picture books (and one of my favorite authors and poets). She has written several collections of nature poetry picture books. Her collection “Birds of a Feather” was done with her son Jason Stemple’s photographs. There is a history of bird watching in their family so this collection is a labor of love. I picked only one of my favorites out of the book, a favorite both for the poem and the bird. I just adore chickadees and I’ve been seeing quite a bit of this lately right outside my window at our bird feeder. This book also includes tidbits of nonfiction facts.
