I love books.  This should come as no surprise from someone who was an English major (and very briefly a High School English teacher as well).  When I found today’s picture book poetry collection all about books?  I fell madly in love with it.

“Book Speak!” by Laura Purdie Salas and illustrated by Josee Bisaillon is a beautiful collection of poems all about books.  There are poems about readers and characters, indexes and cliffhangers!  There were SO many clever poems in this collection that became instant favorites that I read the book through several times!  What a great collection just for fans of reading alone!  BUT I think it would also be a great addition to any classroom for teaching about the writing process as well.  I especially loved the poems about conflict and endings.  There are a lot of different form poems in here too.  Wonderful!

I picked today’s poem to share though because I LOVED both the words, the images they presented, and the illustrator’s choice in layout on the page.  It culminated in a beautiful stand alone piece that will forever remain in my mind.
