NPM 2020 Day 7: Margaret Wise Brown

Did you know that Margaret Wise Brown wrote poetry too?

1-Goodnight Songs COVER“Goodnight Songs, A Celebration of the Seasons” is a collection of song poems written by Margaret Wise Brown and illustrated by a great number of skilled illustrators.  In fact, many of my favorite illustrators were included in this collection and that made it a challenge to pick JUST ONE poem (yet again).  I would’ve loved to have shared Peter Brown’s art work or Molly Idle’s but no.  The poem I picked is a different one that I found both whimsical and a favorite sign of spring for me.  I adore Pussy Willows.  I don’t know why they sing of spring to me, but they do.  I remember my mom gathering some branches with them when I was a kid and putting them in a vase.  I marveled at their soft fuzziness.  This poem, “the song of the tiny cat,” and the accompanying illustration by Blanca Gomez capture that childlike wonder.  I will share a photo of the illustrator’s comment at the end of the book as well.
