NPM 2021 Day 8: The Nest That Wren Built

Since we’ve been talking about spring, we should also be talking about birds and this book.

1-NtWB COVER“The Nest that Wren Built” is written by Randi Sonenshine in a cumulative form.  It’s nonfiction poetry at its best, as it focuses in on the life cycle of Carolina wrens in such a creative way.  The illustrations by Anne Hunter also really help to draw the reader into the text as well.  They remind me ever so slightly of the scientific studies of the early 1800s.

This is a fascinating read for someone like me who loves both birds and poetry, but it will also appeal to young readers.  This is a book you won’t want to miss.

Again, when the whole book is a poem, it’s difficult to pick just one page or spread or passage to share.  I had several favorites, but in the end, I went with this one:
