Today I share another oldie poetry picture book originally published in 2014 and worth noting.
I don’t remember how I stumbled upon this collection of poems, but I suspect my love of all things about the ocean helped to bring it within my radar. “In the Sea” is a collection of poems by David Elliott about the sea. It’s illustrated by Caldecott-Honoree Holly Meade with linocut illustrations that are stunning. Since I just saw an illustration webinar last November about this very art technique, I know how complicated and time consuming that art can be. Therefore, I’m doubly impressed. Needless to say, I will be tracking down the other two books similar to this by both author and illustrator.
Once again, it was incredibly difficult to pick just one poem to share, but I managed to settle on one poem about a starfish.
And let’s finish with a closeup of that starfish so you can see the gorgeous detail!
