When one of my favorite poets and one of my favorite illustrators come together to create a beautiful poetry picture book, you know I have to share it!
DEAR ACORN (LOVE, OAK) is a poetry picture book written by the brilliant Joyce Sidman and illustrated by the inimitable Melissa Sweet. It’s a collection of nature companion poems where various aspects of nature (big and small) write to each other. YES! You’ve got that right! It’s also an epistolary collection!
I absolutely adore this book! It’s definitely one of my favorite discoveries this year. And I was torn between sharing my love of the ocean (because of course there’s a lovely ocean poem) OR the one I chose to post for today. BUT the river and pebble poems won out because the writing of them just enchants me. You’ll see for yourself! So trust me when I say you’ll want to check out the WHOLE book later.
I had to share two poems here (as they’re companion pieces). You can’t see the one without the other in this case for the full effect to hit home. I share a closeup of the poems, then a picture of the full spread so you can see each in its full glory.
And if you’re looking for more poetry fun this month, be sure to check out the Kidlitosphere Event Roundup! Thank you for stopping by!
