NPM 2024 Day 27: SMOKE AT THE PENTAGON

It’s the last Saturday in April and another re-share of a poetry picture book I highlighted last year.

CoverImageSmokeAtPentagonSMOKE AT THE PENTAGON is an incredible poetry picture book all about the events of that fateful day, September 11, 2001 when a planes flew into buildings that would leave scars on our hearts for years to come.  There were many picture books written about 9/11, but none of them focused on the Pentagon, like this one does.

Here, a bunch of fictional children give their perspective on the events of that day, the impact to their lives, and the events that happened afterwards to rebuild lives.  It’s an amazing collection that shouldn’t be celebrated only in September.  The emotion here just shimmers off the page like waves of heat, and the illustrations are equally powerful.  You can read the author interview here.

And if you’re looking for more poetry fun this month, be sure to check out the Kidlitosphere Event Roundup!  Thank you for stopping by!
