Today’s poetry picture book fascinated me with a look at both the North and South poles. I don’t know how I missed it!

I admit that I still haven’t read all of the poetry picture books by David Elliott that I want to so there may be more to come in future posts. But who can complain? Each book in this series (animal series? habitat series?) shares a wealth of wonderfully crafted words and illustrations. This book, AT THE POLES, is no exception. While David writes the poems, illustrator Ellen Rooney uses a multi-media approach that is stunning. I had an incredibly difficult time picking just one poem! I loved the Polar Bear and Narwhal poems too. Yet the words and image of the poem I picked remained in my brain long after seeing them.
Once again, I share a closeup of the poem, then a picture of the full spread so you can see it in its full glory. And it is truly glorious!

Ooh, nice!
Right? The whole book is gorgeous.
I love David’s books. I use them in my science class and this one is a favorite. Thanks for sharing!
I’m really enjoying these featured poetry books and am blown away by today’s author, who thought to rhyme “chalice” with “borealis.” Bravo!
Right? Isn’t that an amazing word choice! That’s one of the reasons I picked that one. 🙂
