I love those hard ribbon candies that come out at Christmas time. Especially the random ones like the filled hard raspberry round ones. So when I think of sweet, I think of … Christmas sweets and the plethora of sweets to be found during this season. So why not sweets being sweet? Continue reading

Day 6: Cold
I find it funny (in a very not funny way) that it’s been so cold the last few days that my car wouldn’t start this morning. And all sorts of drama ensued. So naturally, today’s drawing prompt is “cold” when the weather is absolutely freezing as well. As a result, this is what I’m thinking about today. Not very Christmas-y, I know, but still. It’s where my brain went. Continue reading
Day 5: Hope
It’s very hard to come up with a drawing for an intangible thing, but I tried to think of it more as “feelings” and what characters might be feeling hope. AND of course I thought of Christmas-y things and … this is what I came up with. Continue reading
Day 4: Star
Here is today’s sketch. I had a couple of ideas, but decided to do this one so I could play with some color. Mixed media: ink, colored pencil, crayon, and water color. Unfortunately, it didn’t turn out quite the way I wanted. BUT it’s finished, not perfect. Continue reading
Day 3: Family
I had about 4 different ideas for this prompt and this is the one I came up with. Continue reading
Day 2: Night
I had a grand idea for today’s topic, but it just wouldn’t work. No matter how much I tried. Then I discovered that there’s another illustrator holiday advent thing going on out there with tons of participants. I swear I looked everywhere to make sure there wasn’t anything else like this! Darn.
Oh well. I’m breaking rule #3. “DON’T COMPARE YOURSELF TO OTHERS!”
So night seems like an appropriate topic for today. And I realized I didn’t think “holiday” enough on yesterday’s doodle, so … I thought I should do that today instead. Here is my final result (white fine line paint pen on black card stock): Continue reading
Day 1: Snow
As a reminder, I’m posting a smidge early so you guys can use this entry to post your links (since I’m on Alaska time). Here’s my doodle for “snow” (color to be added later): Continue reading
My mermaid obsessions: seahorse
School got out on the 20th. BUT wouldn’t you know I got sick right after wrapping up my classroom. AND last week was a week long Picture Writing class I took to help me teach writing to my kids next year. It is a passionate topic of mine, but I have struggling students in this area. SO I’ve been searching to find the perfect solution to get my kids engaged and involved in writing (in the hopes that they might be as passionate about it as I am). I believe this class is the key.
