Today’s poetry picture book came out in 2019, but you might’ve missed it! I admit I did, but it’s a perfect book for Fall (my favorite season) so I had to share.
PICK A PUMPKIN is written by Patricia Toht and illustrated by Jarvis. It’s a picture book where one poem covers the entire book. Yet each page brings a new delight in both text and illustrations. It celebrates every inch of fall with pumpkins (which is quite brilliant given the pumpkin latte craze–or in my case pumpkin chai). It follows a bunch of children on a crisp fall day from a farm with a variety of pumpkins to be picked, to home where they start carving them, and follows them on other fall adventures (including dressing up for Halloween).
While it’s hard to pick just one section of the poem, I decided to share this page which just seemed to perfectly capture the hope that a fresh pumpkin and fall can hold.
