NPM 2024 Day 17: WAYS TO SAY I LOVE YOU

I looked at this book for Valentine’s day and ended up saving it for now.  It was worth the wait.

0-CoverWAYS TO SAY I LOVE YOU is another poetry picture book by the ever-so-talented Marilyn Singer.  Here she matches animal pairs (and facts) with human pairs.  Every page was a delightful comparison, but as always I struggled to pick one page from this poem that spans the entire book to capture the essence of it.  However, I ultimately picked a spread because the art by Alette Straathof reminded me of Gustav Klimt’s “The Kiss.”  Plus I love swans.  There was a family of them that returned every year to the town where I grew up.  It was beautiful to see seven swans randomly swimming along the ocean shoreline of my little island town.  Regardless, here’s the page I chose (and the bit of matching back matter) to give you an idea of what the book looks like.  Note the art with the animals mirrors the humans, just as the text does.  It’s beautifully done.
