NPM 2024 Day 22: MY HEART WAS A TREE

Today I get to share one of the treasures I found on my trip to the UK last summer.

0-CoverMY HEART WAS A TREE is a collection of poems and stories about trees.  The author, Michael Morpurgo, might be better known to the American audience for his book WAR HORSE.  He was inspired by the poem “My Own True Family” by Ted Hughes (from which the title of the book comes) to write this collection and it is definitely inspired.  I found myself loving so many of the poems (AND the stories) within.  Each page of the book is gorgeously illustrated by Yuval Zommer.  I splurged and bought an autographed copy while at a bookstore in the UK.  I didn’t unwrap it until I got home (I had it shipped) and was delighted to see it was signed by both author and illustrator and there is a print in the back of the book as well.  The poem I share today was the first one I fell in love with, but there are many more I love as well.  The short stories centered around trees are also ones I will never forget.  This was perhaps my favorite book find that I can share with you here.  Enjoy!
