Today’s poetry picture book also comes from Amsterdam.
A POND FULL OF INK was originally published in Amsterdam in 2011 and came to the US in 2014. It’s a collection of nonsense poetry full of the whacky and absurd. That doesn’t always translate well and to be honest, not all of the poems in the collection work for me. I suspect that there must be something lost as I’m not from the Netherlands. There are some fun ones here and I definitely liked the image of a pond of ink that might run dry from use. I chose a fun poem (though it is long) that felt more like a silly Grimm’s fairy tale to me akin to the Musicians of Bremen. Enjoy!

Please note: I was also given a copy of the book to review by the publisher (Eerdmans Books), but as always, the opinions are all mine.
And if you’re looking for more poetry fun this month, be sure to check out the Kidlitosphere Event Roundup! Thank you for stopping by!

I’m reading a book right now that was translated from Hebrew (I think). It’s all about gardening, so mostly it translates well. I imagine poetry is a different boat!
It’s right up there with humor. It doesn’t always cross over.
Yes, true!
