I feel like biographical poetry picture books are a rare beast these days!

EXTRAORDINARY MAGIC: the Storytelling Life of Virginia Hamilton is a collection of poems that tell the life of Virginia Hamilton in snippets. One is about learning storytelling from hearing relatives on the porch creatively embellishing true events, another is how she conquered a reoccurring nightmare. While I loved both of those poems, I chose another to highlight her as an adult and becoming a writer in her own right. This book by Nina Crews (who both wrote the poems and created the illustrations) is a revelation. It’s a beautiful tribute to an inspirational woman. Enjoy!
