I love when an illustrator brings NEW life to a classic poem.
I adore some of the classic poems (and love to find my own unique poems by favorite poets). This Emily Dickinson poem highlighted today is one of her more famous and frequently illustrated (in fact, I think there may be another new recent picture book of this poem just published as well!). Yet I’m not highlighting the poem by itself today, I’m highlighting the illustrator! I’m sure most of us have heard of the poet, but have you heard of Tatyana Feeney? She does such crazy creative things with colors and textures! They’re beautiful glorious collages of brilliance!

Today’s book came out last year illustrated by Tatyana Feeney. (She also illustrated Carl Sandburg’s THEME IN YELLOW published in 2023). I love her interpretation of some of the lines (and I can’t share them all because the poem spans the whole book!). I share just one spread where I absolutely adore the textures. LOOK at the rain! It’s bubble wrap!!! I also include the whole original poem by Emily Dickinson (from the back of the book) so you can see where the line lands (and hopefully it might make more sense if you’re not familiar with the poem). Enjoy!

What a lovely interpretation of a classic (and hopeful) poem!
