So I’m curious about a little something and want to ask you about it.

I’ve been reading Jacob Souva’s blog for some time now (or bits of it). While I read a lot of creators’ blogs and newsletters, his is one of my favorites because he gets into the deep thinky thoughts of creativity that makes me feel like I’m digging my fingers deep into the sand of it all too (in the most delicious way because I love talking and thinking about these things).
I just finished Julia Cameron’s “The Artist’s Way” book study for the first time ever (I swear I did it years ago but it turns out I never actually did! I read one of her other books!) and it’s made me realize a LOT about myself as a creator. I also read Austin Kleon’s book “Show Your Work” not that long ago and both have made me think about what I share of my own creative process. I really don’t. I used to a while ago, but I think with all of the social media dramas, platforms dying (and people hopping around), and AI (and the very real fear of my art work being stolen) that I kind of quit sharing all the little bits and bobs.
I’m not ONLY a book reviewer. I wear many hats (as you know if you’ve followed my blog for a while) and my creativity has been on quite a journey this year. Would you be interested in reading about some of that?
I’m serious. If I get a lot of comments here, I might consider posting about it more regularly. Are you just here for the book talk? Or do you want to get to know my thoughts on other things too, the pursuit of the creative craft? Just curious. 🙂
The more we know about you and your process, the more we can enjoy your book and reviews! On my Substack, I give Thursdays to “Authors are Real People” – right now, I am sharing my years of international volunteering in developing countries.
That’s true Robin. And I love that title. I’m going to have to look up your substack!
I would love to read more about your creative process. Part of what I like about your book reviews is your voice coming through in the interviews. I like hearing how you interacted with the book. So, yes!! Please share whatever you feel comfortable sharing!
Aww! Thank you. That’s a great point!
I always enjoy reading about the many different approaches to our work! Share away!
Good to know! Thanks Jerry!
YES! I stopped worrying about work being stolen years ago when I ran my needlework biz. I don’t find it worth the effort, not to mention ineffective. It just makes me sad, mad, and lonely. Bad people are going to do bad things. I choose to focus on the good: good people, good work, good efforts, good sharing. And AI? Meh. Same same. What are we going to do about that, really? Let’s do US (you do you, me do me) the biggest and best way we know how. I’ll follow you anywhere, and I’m especially excited to go where you’re excited to go. Cheers!
Aww! Thanks Jen. And those are most excellent points. Art needs to be shared to bring joy.
I’d definitely be up for posts on the creative process!
Awesome!
I’m always interested in seeing others’ creative processes. It often stirs something within my own.
That’s true. That’s the same for me.
What a great idea! You could also angle some of your Simply 7 Blogs toward the writer or illustrator’s creative process, as well. It’s always interesting to find out where ideas come from and how they grow and blossom from there (and how long it takes for that to happen!)
