Ahh … green.  Let’s just take a moment to think about green grass and growing things.  OH how I miss them.  We’re still buried in snow in Alaska.  Today’s picture book will help daydreaming of warmer days.

BEHOLD OUR MAGICAL GARDEN: POEMS FRESH FROM A SCHOOL GARDEN is a fantastic collection of poems written by Allan Wolf and illustrated by Daniel Duncan.  There is fun word play, form poetry and free verse, rhyming and non.  I was SO blown away by this book that I instantly had to go look up Allan Wolf and wonder why I hadn’t run across his work before.  I loved this book!

The illustrations by Daniel Duncan only served to fan the flames of my appreciation.  He creates characters and settings that we see repeat throughout the book, changing seasons, changing plants, and so much more.  I read through this book a few times before I finally settled on the poem I picked.  I thought it was the perfect sense of poetry and play to be found in the words, as well as the whimsy that could be found in the illustrations.
