NPM 2023 Day 24: SERENGETI

If you haven’t discovered the wonder of science poetry written by Leslie Bulion yet, you’re in for a treat.

0-SPG coverSERENGETI: PLAINS OF GRASS is a wonderful collection of poems all about the animals and plants that live within the Serengeti. This was a passion project for writer Leslie Bulion who visited the Serengeti many years ago and had always wanted to write about it (culminating in this book here).  This is a collection of poems she wrote with a form I wasn’t familiar with, the utendi.  I’m going to share her own words (as I won’t summarize them very well).

The illustrations are every bit as beautiful as the words.  Becca Stadtlander uses gouache paintings on every spread to bring each poem (and sidebar of information) to life in glorious details of plants and animals alike.  I share one poem about one of my favorite animals on the Serengeti.
