Dear God, do I need a copy of this book for my classroom!
I only just discovered Allan Wolf’s poetic work a couple of years ago (which I also highlighted for National Poetry Month). I have yet to make it a priority to track down everything he’s written to read, but I definitely need to rectify that!

HOW TO TANTRUM LIKE A CHAMPION isn’t quite what the main title suggests. It’s not an instruction manual for blowing up. Instead, it uses a gentle rhyme to help kiddos identify when they’re about to explode and helps them figure out how to manage their emotions. It’s more of a manual for calming down, but it’s done in a completely kid-friendly way with a LOT of humor. Which I will be the first to admit: everyone in the vicinity of an epic tantrum definitely needs a laugh to help breathe a sigh of relief when it’s over.
As I’ve said repeatedly, it’s hard to pick just one page from a poem that spans the entire book to really highlight how wonderful it is. There’s a top-10 list of ideas of what to do to help calm down that is terribly hard to capture in one spread (though one of my favorite spreads involves imaginary pie). Instead, I chose a page with multiple bits that I think really helps to capture the rhythm of the book. Enjoy!

And if you’re looking for more poetry fun this month, be sure to check out the Kidlitosphere Event Roundup! Thank you for stopping by!
I’m going to want to remember this one in a few months!

In rhyme – amazing. Not forced and a fantastic read aloud! moms would love this at story time!
