NPM 2025 Day 15: LEAFY LANDMARKS

Today’s poetry picture book is one of my absolute favorite discoveries this year.

I have highlighted several of Michelle Schaub’s poetry picture books the last few years, but I honestly think that this book I share with you today may be her best one yet. Seriously! It’s one of my favorite finds that I get to share with you this year.

LEAFY LANDMARKS is a collection of poems about trees. If that was it, I’d be thrilled (I do love trees so very much after all), but it doesn’t stop there. The premise of the book is genius! It’s a “road trip” of the US to visit landmark trees!

And it gets better! The back matter explains how you can find landmark trees near you to visit that weren’t included in the book. Genius, right? Because there are way more landmark trees out there than can fit in a book like this. BUT the trees chosen for this book are incredible. I had a very difficult time picking just one poem, so I chose the one that surprised me the most. I’d never heard of it! I love learning new things that should already be in my wheelhouse because they’re of interest to me. And after reading this book, I desperately wanted to go on my own tree road trip. Who’s in?

And if you’re looking for more poetry fun this month, be sure to check out the Kidlitosphere Event Roundup!  Thank you for stopping by!

  1. I’m in! I used to love road trips as a kid (and thankfully, so did my parents!). I’ve gotten a little away from the road trip and have opted for the faster routes. But I’m longing to get back to it!
There are so many interesting things to see along with the trees. I’m game! When do we leave?? <3
