If you are a dog lover, today’s poetry picture book is definitely for you!

I’m not terribly familiar with all of Barney Saltzberg’s work, but I do know BEAUTIFUL OOPS! which I keep in my classroom collection. THE SMELL OF WET DOG is an author-illustrator collection of his poems all about dogs. It already has comparisons to Shel Silverstein because it has plenty of black and white line drawings accompanying it, as well as many hilarious poems (like the one I will share today). But it’s not all silly fun! As any dog owner knows, there are moments of silliness and moments of heartfelt emotions. We are talking about dogs after all!

And if you’re looking for more poetry fun this month, be sure to check out the Kidlitosphere Event Roundup! Thank you for stopping by!
LOL Reminds me of the new HUGE puppy next door who barks at every single person who walks outside.
That’s a great poem!!
I thought it was one of the best in the book. 😉
How fun – far better smell than Wet Cat.
I’m in for anything giving Shel Silverstein vibes! 🙂 This collection looks adorable. Would be a great gift for dog lovers too.
