NPM 2026 Day 15: PUG AND OTHER ANIMAL POEMS

Every once in a while, I like to throw an older poetry picture book into the mix.

PUG AND OTHER ANIMAL POEMS is a poetry picture book that was published in 2013. I absolutely loved the cut paper illustrations Steve Jenkins made. The attention to detail and all the various textures he used always blew my mind. When I ran across this book in the library, I had to check it out. Yes, it was published years ago, but it still stands strong.

Interestingly enough, the illustration that goes with the poem I chose actually begins on the title page and friskily runs across several pages altogether. SO I’m going to show you those first. Otherwise, you’re just left with the butt of a fox and the impact is lost. I want you to see the choices Steve made here to accompany the lovely poem Valerie Worth wrote. Enjoy!

And if you’re looking for more poetry fun this month, be sure to check out the Kidlitosphere Event Roundup!  Thank you for stopping by!

  1. Thanks for bringing this one back to the limelight! Love these poems paired with Steve Jenkins’ illustrations. This fox looks like it’s been painted on leather. Such amazing texture!
