Today’s poetry picture book is another one by David Elliott and illustrated by the brilliant Evan Turk.
COLOR THE SKY is a poem written by David Elliott that spans the entire book. It’s beautifully illustrated by Evan Turk (and I cannot imagine it done in any other way) introducing one color (and one bird) at a time. We the reader start in a black and white world until the primary colors are introduced one at a time and each one then welcomes the next. Evan Turk uses pastels to great advantage here and the combination is just stunning. I can see why this book got a bit of buzz.
I chose to share my favorite color (blue) as it’s the second color introduced in the book and gives you an idea of what the introduction of each color does to that black and white world. Gorgeous!
